Pandamonium - The Baby Quilt

Pandamonium - The Baby Quilt

Meet Pandamonium - A modern, panda-inspired quilt pattern!

A little while back, I realized that for as many quilts I make, few of them have been baby quilts, and out of those, only ONE could be considered a baby girl quilt. Most of the ones I've made have been boy quilts–which makes sense since I have two boys, so dinosaur quilt? Done. Minecraft quilt? Done. But even when it's been time to make quilts for family or friends, it's always been baby boy quilts done in soft blues and greys. So it's been a goal of mine, of sorts, to make another baby girl quilt, and Pandamonium presented the perfect opportunity.

Baby Girl Quilt

After designing the pattern, I knew I wanted to make a baby quilt first to make sure I had the match right before jumping into making a full throw size quilt. Since I knew I wanted this quilt to give off all the girly vibes, I knew from the get-go that I'd use stereotypical girl colors–pink, pink, and more pink.

I briefly debated using solids since they're my go-to, but since I knew the throw-size cover quilt would use solids, I opted to use prints for this sample. That same week, I received some advanced yardage of my newest fabric collection, Between the Pages, so l sorted through the prints, I picked two of my favorites: Open Book in Coral and Starlight in Ballerina.

Both of these prints veer towards peachy/coraly pinks, and I love how soft and sweet the prints look together!

Wavy Quilting

Since this was a smaller quilt, I knew I'd be quilting it myself. I knew from the moment I saw the quilt top finished that I'd be using the wavy quilting on my Janome M8. I love the texture this stitch brings to a quilt and how it softens the overall look. It makes for a super cozy quilt, which is exactly what you want for a baby quilt!

I picked another print from my Between the Pages collection for the backing. This time, the main print in White. I love this print's pink touches, which perfectly tie to the binding and quilt top.

For the binding, I picked a solid–Confetti Cotton Solids in Lipstick. This color perfectly matches the touches of darker pink on the Starlight prink as well as the darker pink on the backing print.

Overall, I couldn't be happier with how this quilt turned out! It's so darling!
