Meet June's Pattern of the Month - Memi's Lemons!
This pattern is a celebration of the cheerful vibe of summer picnics and lemonade stands and a loving ode to my grandmother and her front yard lemon tree. Her birthday was in June so I'm honoring my Memi this month by featuring the quilt pattern inspired by her, Memi's Lemons, as the June Pattern of the Month 💛
Memi’s Lemons is a fun and fresh modern quilt pattern, inspired by a grandmother’s love. Memi’s Lemons is a nod to my grandmother, Memi, and her beloved lemon tree that she had in the front yard of our home. Using block rotation and reflection, this pattern is full of fun whimsy. The Scrappy Memi's Lemons
Memi's Lemons is one of my most meaningful quilt patterns I have designed. It's rooted in so much love and childhood memories. This quilt pattern flew out of me and was released very shortly after its design was finalized. Inspiration struck while my family and I were in the middle of a big move, so it probably wasn't the best time to release a quilt pattern. But the inspiration felt so strong and I couldn't shake the deep connection to my Memi.
I connected with my friend Kristina of Fabric Bubb and we worked together to pull these perfect scrappy yellows for my cover quilt! I still get butterflies looking at this fabric pull, because it was exactly what I was envisioning in my head back when the Memi's Lemons concept first popped into my head.
The backing fabric on this scrappy Memi's Lemons quilt is this beautiful Alison Glass fabric from her Sun Print collection. I happened to find it in my stash as I was unpacking - plus it tied in the greens from the lemon leaves nicely. The quilting on this was done by me on my Janome 9450 sewing machine. The finishing touch is the striped binding because you can't go wrong with stripes. ;)

The Fairy Dust Ombre Memi's Lemons
The next sample I made after sewing up my cover quilt was the Fairy Dust version of Memi's Lemons! Fairy Dust is a fabric collection of fabrics where the saturation of the color ombres across the width of fabric. So in one single width of fabric strip, you get this beautiful array of shades in a single fabric! I knew this would be perfect for my Memi's Lemons quilt pattern because it would give you the scrappy look that I designed it to have without having to track down lots of varying shades on your own.
This quilt was so fun to make! Each fabric square that I pulled to sew my next quilt block was a fun, new mystery. Plus, having the subtle silver metallic stars throughout gave the whole quilt a nice shimmer about it.
For the backing, I used some Moda Grunge fabric so as to not distract from the quilt top, and I finished off with a matching solid binding. When it came to quilting this sample up, I pulled out the infamous Jacqui Gerig's Walk book! All of the quilting was done on my Janome 9450 with the help of Jacqui Gerig's guidance.
The Matching Solids Memi's Lemons
So I have to admit that I made this sample and then never wrote up a blog post about it. Life started to pick back up after making it and I never had an opportunity to share it with you! But I wanted to sneak it in here for you to look at because it's such a cute quilt.
Using scraps from my fabric stash, I put together this solids ombre version of Memi's Lemons! All I needed was 8 matching squares of 10 different fabrics to achieve this look. Now every time I see a gorgeous ombre fat quarter bundle being sold by a fabric shop, I imagine what it could look like in my Memi's Lemons quilt!
