Christmas Quilt Patterns
Confession time: I always say I'll make a Christmas quilt and then... I never do. I always think about it in November, and by then, there's not enough time in my schedule to get it done. However, it's been on my mind this year, and the sooner I get working, the more likely I'll actually get it done. So in that spirit, I'm sharing some Christmas quilt patterns, and Christmas inspired mockups with you all!
You might be wondering, Christmas quilts... in July? Yes, in July, because who doesn't love a little Christmas in July? So let's plan early for the holiday season with this list of Christmas quilt patterns. The list below features an assortment of Cotton and Joy quilt patterns that would make the perfect holiday quilt!
Christmas Quilt Patterns
I've designed two modern quilt patterns so far that work really well with the holiday season - Tree Farm and Nordic Gnome. That's not to say that they should only be used for Christmas quilts, though! However, here they are in their most "Christmasy" form!
Tree Farm
Tree Farm quilt pattern is inspired by beautiful Washington State, the Evergreen State, home to many Christmas trees farms. There are 2 sizes available in this pattern - Wall hanging (24” x 30”) and Throw (53” x 61”). Tree Farm is block-based, and you can easily customize the size by adding or subtracting blocks.

Nordic Gnome
The Nordic Gnome quilt pattern is a joyful quilt inspired by gnomes often seen in Christmas and holiday markets throughout Europe. This pattern was originally part of the 2021 Quiltmas QAL as a standalone block. It received so much love that it's now a full pattern! Nordic Gnome comes in two sizes - Table Runner (52″ x 18″) and Throw (58″ x 67″). The Nordic Gnome quilt pattern is a block based, beginner friendly pattern, and can use FQs or 10" precuts.

Bonus: Here is my Nordic Gnomes quilt in Christmas prints! I love the scrappy feel of this one and their little pale pink noses. I used a layer cake to create this quilt and paired contrasting colors from those 10 inch squares together for their hats and bodies.

Christmas Quilt Color Palettes
A quilt's design doesn't have to be directly related to Christmas for it to be a holiday quilt. Sometimes, it's just a matter of picking the right color palette for you to turn any quilt pattern into a Christmas quilt! I've put together a couple of examples from my quilt patterns that show this off for you. You'll notice that all of these quilt patterns have something in common. Can you guess what it is?
Joyful Stars
Joyful Stars is a fun and modern star quilt pattern that works well with solids, prints, or scraps. No tricky piecing makes this a great beginner quilt pattern. Pattern includes instructions for an ombre rainbow version, as seen on the cover, and a scrappy version, as seen in the quilt mock-up below. Joyful Stars comes in 4 sizes - Baby (49″ x 49″), Throw (66″ x 66″), Twin (68″ x 99″), and Queen/King (114″ x 114″).

Stellar Mosaic
The Stellar Mosaic quilt is a stunning modern quilt with a modern take on the classic sawtooth star quilt block. This block-based pattern uses fat eights or fat quarters, and suggestions are provided in the pattern on making it scrappy using cuts only from your stash. The block construction allows for large blocks that are great for showing off your favorite prints! The Stellar Flare quilt pattern comes in 5 sizes - Baby (36″ x 54″), Throw (54″ x 72″), Twin (72″ x 90″), Queen (90″ x 108″), and King (108″ x 108″).

Starlight
The Starlight quilt pattern is a modern sawtooth star pattern, made up of a mix and match design. You can use your favorite FQ bundle, scraps, or a layer cake paired with a background fabric to create the classic sawtooth star in the negative space. The pattern's easy-to-follow instructions provide a quick and effortless sewing experience for quilters of all levels. Starlight comes in 4 sizes - Baby (45" x 45"), Throw (60" x 60"), Twin (75" x 90") and Queen (90" x 90").

If you guessed stars, you'd be correct! Stars in quilt designs, especially the Sawtooth Star, are such a classic and traditional staple.

I love this! And darn if you don't have me wanting to make another Xmas quilt!
Especially Starlight. I'm making a pink and purple one right now 😊
And for me it's Thanksgiving/Fall, every year I say I'm making one still hasn't happened. Last year I picked fabric and a pattern, but nope!
