The Life of A Quilt Girl

The Life of A Quilt Girl

Welcome to The Life Of A Quilt Girl – Fran's Version! What happens when you give a quilt girl a new color palette? She can't help but to dream up new quilts to make! That's exactly what happened when Taylor Swift announced a new album last week – The Life Of A Showgirl.

We kinda, sorta knew this was coming and when Taylor Nation shared 12 photos from the Eras Tour, with Taylor wearing orange outfits in all of them, this was kinda, sorta confirmed. And I'll be honest, I'm not much of an orange girl, so I was excited for the new album, but also not excited about the color? Until she brought in the mint into. I loooove a good mint/teal moment.

From there, along with half of the internet, I couldn't help but be inspired.

Color Palette

My first step was figuring out the best fabric colors to use, so I hopped on Illustrator and pulled up my Confetti Cotton Solids swatches – within a few minutes, I had a dreamy color palette.

Once I had these colors down, creating the quilt mockups was an absolute blast. We ended up creating too many of them, but I hope you like them as much as I do!

TLOAQG Quilt Mockups - Fran's Version

Just a fair warning, there are quite a few to look at below. What can I say - I was feeling inspired. The great news is all of these are available as quilt kits in my shop now! This means you can preorder these exact quilt kits to make for yourself. Just promise me you'll blast T. Swift music the entire time, okay?

Cabin Peaks Quilt

One thing about me is that I love a good gradient color palette in a quilt. And Cabin Peaks was the perfect quilt to use to show off this brand-new fabric bundle. My quilt kit for the TLOAQG palette is specifically for the throw size (60" x 75"), but this quilt pattern is offered in baby through king size. So there is lots of room for playing around with other ombre color palettes after you're finished with this one!

Crescent II Quilt

See what I mean? I basically design my quilt patterns around whether or not I can play with an ombre color layout. I'm kidding... maybe? Regardless, Crescent II Quilt is another great option to show off the full spectrum of the TLOAQG color palette. Never fear - the Crescent II quilt pattern also provides options for making the layout scrappy in case you want to go that route instead!

Copihue Quilt

My sweet little Copihue quilt pattern. Doesn't she look great in this color palette?? I know curves might not be for everyone, but I promise they aren't as hard as they look! In case you feel like you might need some extra help sewing curves in a quilt, I have just the blog post for you.

Joyful Stars Quilt

Calling all scrappy quilt lovers! This one's for you. Joyful Stars uses eight fabrics to create this scrappy layout surrounding the negative-space, classic sawtooth star at the center of each quilt block. And - like I mentioned before - I'm not a huge fan of using orange, but seeing it like this makes it feel much more my speed.

Luminaries Quilt

This is another good example of a scrappy version of the TLOAQG color palette - the Luminaries quilt! This one feels a little less scrappy than the Joyful Stars quilt mockup above - maybe because the colors aren't directly touching in this quilt, so there's a little bit of breathing room with the background fabric.

Midpoint Quilt

Midpoint Quilt is one of my favorites because there's so much negative space, which makes the stripes in this quilt really shine! This quilt requires just a small bit of the colors from the TLOAQG fabric bundle, but I think the spirit of the original inspiration of The Life of a Showgirl still shines through here!

Rolly Stack Quilt

Rolly Stack is one of my newest quilt patterns I've released at this time, and boy, do I love it in these colors! This is another situation like the Luminaries Quilt where it's a scrappy quilt, but because none of the colors are touching each other, it doesn't feel so overwhelming. Also, this is a super fast quilt to make in case you're short on time - I highly recommend it!

Starlight Quilt

Last, but not least - the Starlight Quilt! She shines just as bright as the Showgirl herself. This quilt pattern comes in four sizes, with the TLOAQG Quilt Kit being specifically for the throw size (60" x 60").

And, SCENE!

Like I mentioned before, all of these quilt pattern mockups are available as real life quilt kits in my shop! I'm making one for myself, of course. Want to guess which one??

If you make one of these quilt kits or even grab the fabric bundle to use in a different quilt pattern, I'd love to see! You can tag me on Instagram (@cottonandjoy) when you share so I can see. :)
