Quick Quilts: Patterns You Can Finish in a Weekend

Quick Quilts: Patterns You Can Finish in a Weekend

Quick quilt patterns are my go-to when I want the satisfaction of a finished project without committing to a long, drawn-out timeline. Or you're needing something to finish for that last-minute gift idea that you promised yourself you'd finish in time... Ask me how I know.

If you’re looking for fast quilt patterns that don’t feel complicated, you’re in the right place. Below you’ll find a list of fast and easy quilt pattern options that are straightforward to piece and great for making real progress in a short amount of time.

Weekend Quilt Patterns

When I’m planning a weekend project, I look for quilts that keep the steps simple and the productivity high. I like to think of this as easy-to-manage piece quantities, lots of opportunities for chain-piecing, and layouts that come together quickly. The patterns below fit that bill, and they’re perfect for a cozy couple days of sewing.

Rolly Stack Quilt

Rolly Stack quilt shown as a quick quilt pattern with staggered vertical strip blocks in navy, blush, mustard, and floral prints on a white background, finished with wavy quilting and a navy striped binding.

Rolly Stack is one of my favorite fast quilt patterns when I want to get into a good rhythm and see progress quickly. The construction is simple and beginner-friendly, and since it’s designed to use jelly rolls or fat quarters, it’s a great “grab what you’ve got” kind of project. It’s also a really fun way to show off a fabric collection without overthinking the layout.

Midpoint Quilt

Midpoint quilt, a fast and easy quilt design with wide diagonal stripes in teal and navy on an off-white background, photographed against a colorful mural.

Midpoint is one of those fast quilt patterns that feels modern and bold, but still comes together surprisingly quickly. The design has these clean lines and big areas of negative space that make your fabric choices really shine, and the piecing itself is minimal, so you get that “wow” payoff without a ton of tiny parts.

It’s also a great option if you want a weekend quilt that looks a little different from the usual modern quilt pattern. It's got simple construction, a strong graphic impact in a quilt, and a quilt top that can go from cut pieces to finished layout faster than you’d expect.

Bookmarks Quilt

Bookmarks quilt, a quick quilt pattern with vertical bookmark flag blocks in blush, navy, mustard, and floral prints on a white background with mustard binding, styled beside a small table with stacked books and a vase of dried flowers.

Bookmarks is such a fun weekend option because it’s beginner-friendly, quick to piece, and is a fun, themed quilt design. The design of this quilt goes out to all those book lovers, since it looks just like little bookmark flags. It’s one of those quilts where you can get into a steady rhythm with chain piecing and watch the top come together fast.

It’s also a great “use what you’ve got” pattern since you can make it with either layer cakes or fat quarters. If you’re in the mood to show off a favorite collection in its entirety, this one is a really satisfying fast and easy quilt to knock out over a couple of sewing sessions.

Squared Up Quilt

Squared Up quilt, a fast and easy quilt with large patchwork blocks in pastel pink, yellow, aqua, and navy prints with white sashing, photographed outdoors by a river with trees and a bright blue sky.

Squared Up is one of those fast and easy quilts that’s almost impossible to stop once you start. The blocks are made with nice, big pieces for those who don't like chopping their favorite fabrics into little bits. The construction is super straightforward: no tricky piecing and no points to match.

It’s also a perfect “need a quilt fast” pattern. The baby size especially flies; I’ve made versions that come together in an afternoon, which makes it such a good option for last-minute gifts or those moments when you want a quick finish and a big payoff.

Double Dash Quilt

Double Dash quilt, a quick quilt pattern with bold block grids in bright coral, teal, purple, and floral prints framed by white sashing, photographed on a wall with quilted texture visible.

Double Dash is such a solid weekend quilt option if you want something beginner-friendly, quick to piece, and still really striking once it’s all laid out. It’s block-based, so you can batch cut, chain piece, and get into that nice “just one more block” flow without feeling like you’re constantly stopping to rethink steps. I also love it for prints: this is a quilt pattern that makes a favorite fabric stack look extra good, and you can keep it as scrappy or as coordinated as you want.

Whirlwind Quilt

Whirlwind quilt top in navy, coral, pale blue, and cream half-square triangle blocks on a white background, photographed outdoors against a wooden fence - a bold, fast quilt pattern with big, simple shapes.

Whirlwind is a quilt pattern that looks super bold and modern when it’s finished, but it’s still a really doable, quick make. The blocks are big and simple, so once you start sewing, everything moves fast, and you can see it coming together right away. This one is also fully tested and proven in my house… I made a Whirlwind quilt for my sister-in-law’s college graduation on a very tight timeline, finished it just a couple days before the ceremony, and then flew down with it. Cutting it close, but it worked out perfectly.

Solstice Lights Quilt

Solstice Lights quilt, a modern and fast quilt pattern featuring bold geometric blocks in orange, black, and taupe prints with white backgrounds, styled outdoors on autumn leaves for a cozy seasonal feel.

Solstice Lights doesn’t get enough hype, in my opinion. It’s fast, it’s easy, and it has big blocks so you can cut, chain piece, and see it sew up really quickly. It also plays really nicely with prints - this design lets your fabrics do the heavy lifting. This quilt pattern works just as well with a curated fabric pull as it does with a more scrappy mix from your fabric stash.

This pattern has also been tested in real life over here. I’ve used Solstice Lights for a baby quilt gift on a tight timeline and finished it in under a week with only afternoon sewing time. If you want a weekend quilt that feels satisfying from the first cut to the last seam, Solstice Lights is a great pick.

Andes Ode Quilt

Andes Ode quilt pattern featuring bold Andean star blocks in navy, mustard, coral, and pale blue on a crisp white background, with navy binding and the light blue backing folded over.

Andes Ode is such a meaningful pattern for me, and it also happens to be a really satisfying weekend make. The design is inspired by Mapuche textiles from my home country, Chile, and it has that bold, graphic look that feels special without being difficult to sew. It's a quilt that looks like you spent ages on it… even though the construction moves along quickly.

If you want a fast quilt pattern that still has a big impact, Andes Ode is a great pick. Pick a color combo you love, settle into some chain piecing, and you’ll have a quilt top that feels both modern and rooted in tradition by the time your weekend sewing wraps up.

Wrapping Up

If you’re craving a quick finish, I hope this list gave you a few fun options to add to your sewing plans. Fast quilt patterns are such a good reminder that you don’t need weeks of free time to make something beautiful: you just need a solid plan, a little momentum, and a weekend you can carve out for yourself. Happy sewing, and I’ll see you in the next one!
