Meet July's Pattern of the Month - Prairie Tracks!
Welcome to July, and what an exciting month we have ahead! I am beyond thrilled to introduce our next Pattern of the Month: the stunning Prairie Tracks Quilt. If you've been looking for a new project to dive into this summer, look no further. This pattern is a true gem, perfect for creating a beautiful quilt that exudes charm and sophistication with a touch of traditional quilting elements.
About The Quilt Pattern
Prairie Tracks is a big block pattern inspired by spring. It combines the classic bear paw block and a tulip block for a stunning result.
This versatile pattern can be made using 1/3 yard cuts, Fat Quarters, or scraps from your stash! This fun mix-and-match pattern is perfect for confident beginners.
Prairie Tracks is on sale through the entire month of July 2024! Enjoy discounts on both the digital PDF pattern and printed pattern until 7/31/24. You can find the full current Pattern of the Month collection at the end of this blog post.
Prairie Tracks Cover Quilt
The Prairie Tracks quilt pattern was one that took a bit of sketching and mocking up before I landed on the perfect design. I had this dream of creating my own variation of a Bear Paw quilt pattern (mainly because I love bears, but also because the block is just so dang cute). When I combined the Tulip Block with the Bear Paw Block, I knew I had it!
I know I'm featuring this quilt during the summer, BUT I channeled spring when I sewed up my first sample and used my favorite Kona colors for my Prairie Tracks cover quilt. One of the easiest ways to choose fabrics for this quilt pattern is to pick 6 overall colors that you like together. From there, you split those colors into 2 - a lighter and darker version of each. The colors I used from the Kona Cottons solids are:
- Group A (1/3 Yard Each): Green Tea, Ice Frappe, Sky, Bubble Gum, Lemon, Shadow
- Group B (1/4 Yard Each): Chartreuse, Jade Green, Dusty Blue, Punch, Grellow, Smoke
Jill of J-Coterie longarm quilted this Prairie Tracks quilt for me in this sweet loopy pantograph. I continued the "all solids" theme by choosing a solid fabric for both the binding and backing fabric. I've got to say - I adore the way this quilt turned out!
You can read about this quilt and see more pretty cover quilt pictures (plus the tester versions!) on my blog here.
Prairie Tracks Pirouette Quilt
This was the second sample I made for my Prairie Tracks quilt pattern - the Pirouette fabric version! These fabrics were designed by Arleen from Birch Fabrics. The prints in this fabric collection were SO CUTE - the perfect little girl prints!
I used my favorite way to pick colors again for this quilt (I mentioned in the section above in case you missed it) and paired the Pirouette prints with a coordinating solid fabric. This helps the quilt feel grounded when you aren't ready to dive into a full "all prints" quilt!
I quilted this one up on my own on my Janome 4120 QDC sewing machine. The classic straight-line quilting has never steered me wrong in the past, and this Prairie Tracks quilt is no exception to that!
