I am so, so excited to finally share the Rolly Stack quilt pattern with all of you! I feel like I say this more and more often, but this pattern has honestly been in the works for about a year now, so it's so incredible to have it out in the world.

Behind The Quilt Design
So how did Rolly Stack come to be? Let's take it back to summer 2024–For my 5th collection, I pitched an out of the box idea to Riley Blake Designs: a blenders-only collection. Basics, but not. Just four prints, in a variety of modern colors. In my pitch, I made sure to include pattern mockups to showcase how dynamic this collection really is even though it's missing the usual large prints. Amongst the patterns I included Rolly Stack.
My go-to when designing patterns for a collection is 10" x 10" precuts (commonly known as Layer Cakes) because their larger size allows for a lot of different pieces and provides the room to showcase larger prints.

However, for this collection I went with my much less frequently used 2.5" strip precuts (commonly known as Jelly Rolls). But why? Well, the 2.5" strips pair perfectly with the small scale prints in the collection–nothing is getting chopped up too small, everything has the room to shine.
Initially I didn't love the design, something felt stagnant until I staggered the columns a bit to add some movement to the overall design.
Strip Piecing
When it came time to decide how the construction of this quilt would happen, I immediately went to strip piecing, sewing the full 2.5" x 42" precut strips with background width of fabric strips to make the sewing process quick and effortless.
This is truly one of the quickest quilts to sew out of all of my patterns, this combined with the no-seams-to-match make Rolly Stack the perfect quilt pattern for beginners.
Quilting
I've actually had this particular quilt done for about 9-10 months now because it was one of the ones I took to Quilt Marker 2024 with me! The incredible Stephanie at Hillside Stitches quilted two of the quilts I took with me and it's just the best!
I love how the loops in the panto (Interstellar) add movement to the overall look of the quilt without taking away from the fabric or design. Stephanie got the density just right and she did it all in record time!

For the binding and backing, I went with things I had on hand–a yellow basic from RBD for the backind and a solid blue for the binding.
I honestly couldn't be happier with how this turned out!
