Light your jack-o'-lanterns and grab your cauldrons—we’re bringing back the magic for a second year! Nine amazing quilt pattern designers are coming together again to create another spine-tingling collection of FREE quilt blocks.

Every day between October 1 and October 9, the Spooky Season team will deliver a new, free block pattern directly to your inbox.

2024 Spooky Season Sampler

How do I join?

You can sign up to receive the free 2024 blocks here.

The blocks and finishing instructions will go out to participants October 1 - 10, 2024, and will be available to download until October 31, 2024.

What fabrics are you using?

Riley Blake Designs is our 2024 fabric sponsor and supplied all of the fabric you see in the Sampler.

Each designer used a selection of colors from the basic Shades.

Unfortunately, there is no kit available for this sampler, but we are providing fabric requirements!
Do you have fabric requirements?

These are the estimates for the Spooky Season Sampler 2024.

Please note due to the nature of the sampler, these are rough estimates and we've opted to include more fabric than strictly necessarily, so there will be some waste in the end.

  • Sashing/Borders: 1.25 yards
  • *Blocks Background (white/light): 2 yards
  • Black/Dark: 1.25 yards
  • Other*: 7 FQs

For the "Other" fabric, we recommend at least 1 Green FQ, 1 Medium Grey FQ, and 2 different yellow FQs. The remaining 3 FQs can be a selection of Halloween-y fabric.

[*] If choosing a color other than white for the blocks' background, reduce this to 1.75 yards, and add 1 White FQ for Day 3 block.
Is it suitable for beginners?

Is it suitable for beginners?

The blocks are created with beginners in mind, however, there can be some blocks that skew more towards confident beginner. Some of the skills included or required for the 2024 sampler -

  • Stitch-and-flip / snowball corners
  • Foundation paper piecing
  • Small piecing
What's the finished size?

Blocks will finish at 15" x 15" (15.5" x 15.5" unfinished).

After adding sashing and borders, the quilt top will finish at 57" x 57".

How do I download the 2023 blocks?

The blocks and finishing instructions went out to participants October 1 - 10, 2023, and were available to download until October 31, 2023.

At this point, some of the designers have made the blocks available as downloads for free or paid on their websites. If you'd like to acquire the blocks, please visit the links below.

Do you have the 2023 fabric requirements?

These are the estimates for the Spooky Season Sampler 2023.

Please note due to the nature of the sampler, these are rough estimates and we've opted to include more fabric than strictly needed, so there will be some waste in the end.

  • Background: 2.75 - 3 yards (this includes 1.25 yards needed for sashing/borders)
  • White/Light: .5 to .75 yard
  • Black/Dark: 1 yard
  • Other*: 6-7 FQs

For the "Other" fabric, we recommend at least 1 Yellow FQ and 1 Orange FQ. The remaining 4 FQs can be a selection of Halloween-y fabric.
