NOTE: The Nordic Gnome block was part of Quiltmas 2021 Sampler Quilt and was available for download from Dec 1 - Dec 31, 2021. The pattern received a facelift and it is now full size quilt pattern. You can purchase it here.

I am so excited to be kicking off my favorite time of the year - Quiltmas! This is my third time participating in the Quiltmas Spectacular fun, and I cannot wait for you all to see the blocks the elves have lined up for you.
This year's block might just be my favorite block I've done for Quiltmas. So much so that I'm considering turning it into a full quilt pattern next year.
About the Block
Without further adieu, meet Nordic Gnome (or Norman as I've been calling it in my head haha). I have a little confession to make - I'm slightly obsessed with Christmas gnomes. I trace this obsession back to our time in Germany and my purchase of two little gnomes in one of the Christmas markets there.
The pattern, as with patterns from previous Quiltmas Spectaculars, is for a block measuring 12-1/2" x 12-1/2" unfinished.
The block is traditionally pieced (no paper piecing!) and comes together pretty dang quickly.
So what can you do with it? Here are a couple of ideas!
- Make all 12 Quiltmas blocks for a sampler throw size quilt (just add some sashing and borders!)
- Add top/bottom borders and swap pieces B2 in the pattern for taller pieces to make a pillow cover
Remember to tag me on Instagram and use the hashtags #nordicgnomequilt, #cottonandjoypatterns and #quiltmasspectacular - I can't wait to see your blocks!
Oh my! Wish I would have seen this sooner to get the pattern. Our youngest loves gnomes and is pregnant. I would love to make her a baby quilt before baby shower which is before the fall. Darn it all. She would love it.
Thanks for the block. Quiltmas looks like fun! Is there a list of dates or participants to be sure we don’t miss any? I sure would like one. Please let me know.
Love your pattern, thank you! Kitty Ann
Love it! Whipped it up that night. Will post as soon as I iron. Lol
Love this! I have made 3 so far.
