Hi there, my name is Breanna Gaudaur and I am an avid quilter, pattern tester, tech editor and long arm quilter based in Ontario, Canada. I’ve been quilting since I was six years old, and it is still my favorite way to spend time. When I’m not quilting you’ll find me busy at my day job, reading, playing piano or baking.
Ok, there’s something I need to confess before we get any further. Ready?
I haven’t actually read A Court of Thorns and Roses yet.
I know, I know. The worst part is I have zero excuses. I am an avid reader (audiobooks are the soundtrack to most of my quilting sessions), I enjoy fantasy, and I know I’d enjoy the ACOTAR series. But here we are.
The good news is that I have the authority to tell you that this Night Court pattern is stunning even if you’re not an avid ACOTAR fan!
Phew! Now that’s off my chest we can dive into the details of my wall hanging version. As per usual, my fabric pull was heavily inspired by trying to use what I had on hand. I quickly realized that using Ruby Star Society’s Metallic Speckled line would give this quilt an extra *sparkle* and was delighted to realize that I already had the perfect colors in my stash.
This quilt top came together really quickly once I had my pieces cut out, and I was pleasantly surprised to discover that I enjoyed the FPP much more than I thought I would. I don’t have a whole lot of experience with FPP, and when I’ve tried it in the past I’ve been frustrated by how bulky some of the seams can get. I had nothing to worry about with Fran’s pattern though, as that wasn’t an issue at all!
As I was thinking about potential pantograph options I knew I wanted something that would highlight the beautiful starry sky. I decided on Vega by Sew Shabby Quilting. I scaled the pantograph down to fit better with the piecing, and love how it turned out.
I couldn’t decide on a binding fabric so I decided to do a facing instead. This way the design will go right to the edges of the quilt instead of being boxed in by binding, and I think that’s the right look for this project.
My mom has already claimed this quilt for her quilting studio, so I’ll need to get the facing finished asap. Maybe I should finally listen to A Court of Thorns and Roses while I work on it!
