I have a fun new block to share with you all today. This little cutie is from Jennifer Long’s Through the Woods Quilt!
I've had the pleasure of working with Jennifer of Sew A Story through Riley Blake Design and she's the sweetest. So when she reached to see if I'd join the book tour to celebrate the release of her Through the Woods booklet, I was thrilled to join in.
So what's Through the Woods? As the name suggests, this is a fun take on the Little Red Riding Hood story. The booklet is 56 pages long and includes beautifully illustrated step-by-step instructions to make the full quilt on the cover and the coordinating pillows!
I wish I could've had enough time to make the whole quilt, but life got in the way so I decided to make Little Red... but I had to make her my own.
As I kid, I always wished there would've been a story with a main character that wore my favorite color, purple, so I thought, why not make Little Red into Little Purple?
I used a selection of fabrics from my Moonchild fabric collection - all purple for her outfit (hood and dress), and made her basket yellow. I used a denim blue for the ground and used my favorite low volume for the background/sky.
For her skin, I stuck with Confetti Cottons in Ballerina since that's what I had on hand, but Jennifer has a fantastic resource with different fabric you can use for different skin tones on her blog!
I adore how this little cutie turned out and I will be using Jennifer's instructions to make this block into a pillow for my office - or maybe a wall hanging? What do you think?
