Stellar Flare Quilt - Confetti Cottons Solids

The day has arrived! My second pattern of 2021, Stellar Flare, is now available in my shop!

I have been dreaming of making a quilt with this version of the sawtooth star for a long, long time, and I finally decided to make it a reality this year!

I had the pleasure of using Riley Blake Design's Confetti Cottons Solids for this quilt and I'm in love y'all. They're so, so soft! And these colors - sooo yummy!

I originally, made this pattern with my scraps and it was all HSTs, which I quickly regretted, but the final pattern is comes together super quick and so fun to make. Instead of HSTs, it uses a square in a square and flying geese, as you can see in one of the pictures below.

There was a lot of back and forth on Illustrator while I was designing this as well, trying to decide what to do - or if to do - sashing and corner pieces. I decided to do a little play on it all with a fun plus that connects all the sashing pieces together.

Stellar Flare Quilt Pattern

Stellar Flare is fat quarter friendly pattern and is fast and easy and is sews up super quickly. While the pattern is written around fat quarters, half yards or even yards can be used, specially for the larger sizes.

This quilt pattern was written with your fabric stash in mind. You can mix and match fat quarters from your stash or pull the ribbon from that fat quarter bundle you've had sitting around.

Stellar Flare includes instructions for multiple quilt sizes - baby size, throw, twin, queen, and king size.

Walking Foot Quilting

So whenever I work on a new quilt pattern, I always make at least two samples, an all-solids and one with prints. And I usually quilt at least one and send the other to a long arm quilter, usually the cover quilt. This time around I decided to quilt the cover quilt myself, and I love the end result.

I did some classic straight-line quilting on my Janome 9450 using my walking foot, at about 3/4" apart, which is in my opinion the perfect spacing for some straight-line quilting. It gives you just enough texture without overtaking the quilt design.
