Squared Up - Modern Ombre (+ tester quilts!)

Squared Up - Modern Ombre (+ tester quilts!)

As I mentioned in the first blog post of the Squared Up pattern release, I initially designed this pattern specifically to work with 10" Stacker precuts (also called Layer Cakes). But the more I worked on it, I knew I also wanted this pattern to work with yardage since not everyone buys precuts. And thus, the Modern Ombre design layout was born!

Modern boy quilt fabric pull

The premise is simple - each row uses one fabric/color for a more uniform look. This makes fabric pulls fast and super simple to make. I wish I had more pictures of the process of this quilt, but at the risk of sounding like a broken record - this quilt comes together so dang fast that I honestly just didn't even stop to take pictures.

Wavy Quilting

For the quilting, I used the same wavy quilting I did for the scrappy baby on my Janome 9450. It honestly just gives quilts the perfect amount of texture and I love how it goes with the blue, and makes it all very ocean-y haha.

Tester Quilts

Of course no quilt pattern release happens without the amazing feedback from testers. I honestly love how each tester makes the pattern their own and each of their different personalities shines through. Without further adieu, and in no particular order, here are the Squared Up testers quilts!

Amy

Amy blew me away with her quilt! She did a bit of alternative modern ombre layout and used a pink for her backing and I am in love

Breanna

For a completely different - but just a lovely - take on the pattern, Breanna used solids in a grey scale for this modern ombre version. I love how it contrast against the colorful wall in this photo!

Jessica

One of my favorite testers to work with, Jessica combined the scrappy and modern ombre layout when using a precut. The way she placed each block so from afar it looks like the modern ombre layout, but it's still scrappy and precut friendly is just brilliant.

Lori

To say I'm obsessed with this one, would be an understatement. I love the use of Heirloom fabric by Lori and how she placed the blocks.

Sandy

Sandy's baby quilt is a combo of Modern Ombre and Scrappy for such a lovely design! And I 100% obsessed with these windows behind the quilt.

Christine

I ADORE how this quilt by Christine came out - I am very tempted to make a very similar one for one of my little ones!

Squared Up - Black and White

Lauren

Lauren made a twin (!) sized, modern ombre Squared Up for her kiddo and I absolutely adore the colors she used! It makes for such a great modern boy quilt!

Kate

The wonderful Kate made not one, but two baby sized quilts and they're both so fun in their unique ways.

Delphine

Delphine made a lovely, all purple version that has stolen my heart. Purple is one of my favorite colors and I love how this came out!

Genna

Genna had the most unique take on the pattern. She used scraps to create pieces big enough for each piece in the blocks. The colors are so, so good and I just cannot get over it.

The lovely ladies from Rosie Girl Quilting made this Modern Ombre beatuy and I love how it came out. You can purchase a quilt kit for their version on their website!
