Purple Love Unicorn Quilt
I keep meaning to share this cutie but time just keeps getting away from me! This little unicorn quilt came into being for the sweet girl next door.
Over the last few months we’ve become pretty close with our neighbors, and somehow amongst three houses and nine kids, there are only two girls. So they get a little spoiled, especially the littlest one. She is the sassiest, funniest, cutest little girl I’ve ever met and she’s stolen our hearts.
Last month was her birthday, and when I saw this unicorn quilt pattern from Elizabeth Hartman, I just couldn’t help myself. I knew I had to make it for her. And friends, it was so worth it. I was a little sad to see this unicorn quilt go, but the smile I got from this sweet girl was just the best! She even came up to the quilt and hugged it.
Her favorite color is purple (a girl after my own heart!), so I was able to use leftovers from the Bella Cottons Purple bundle I used for my butterfly quilt. In fact, now that I think about it all of the fabrics I used for this unicorn quilt were fabrics I already had in my stash!
And this leads me to my one regret with this quilt. I wish I had used a better contrasting fabric for the background. The beige doesn’t let the white body portion of the unicorn stand out. Next time I make this unicorn quilt (because there definitely will be a next time), I’ll be sure to use a darker background color.
Making this pattern has cemented Elizabeth Hartman as one of my favorite quilt pattern designers out there. They are not only fun but extremely clear to follow. She includes excellent instructions and diagrams. I already have my eye on a couple of more patterns to make for my kiddos and as gifts.
